UMBI offers a number of academic and training opportunities for teachers and students. Some of these programs are listed below:
High schools students in Maryland with biotechnology projects are invited to compete in the Maryland State BioGENEius competition. Finalists are sponsored to compete in the NE Regional competition with the opportunity to represent the region at the International BioGENEius Challenge during the Annual BIO Convention. The J. Craig Venter Institute offers a variety of education programs for students and teachers including a mobile lab for middle schools in the D.C. Metro region, professional development for teachers and fellowships.
