Exhibitors: You will not be able to drive up to the Natcher Center to drop off your materials. Only bring with you what you can carry in through security.
The NIH is on the Metro's Red Line at the Medical Center Station. Visit the “Metro" website for information on fares and schedules, http://www.wmata.com. The station's escalators come out on the NIH campus. Pedestrians coming to the NIH from the Metro should proceed to the Gateway Center, Building 66, to receive a visitor ID. The entrance is near the Metro escalators. When visitors exit the Gateway Center, they are inside the campus fence and able to walk or take a shuttle bus to the Natcher Center, which is Building 45 and located just to the south of the Gateway Center.
A map of the Gateway Center entrance complex, as well as security regulations, may be found at http://parking.nih.gov/Gateway.htm
Visitors arriving by bus will be dropped off at the Gateway Center, Building 66, where they must obtain a visitor ID. Upon exiting the Gateway Center, walk or take the Campus Shuttle to the Natcher Center, Building 45.
The NIH Campus Shuttle is free of charge and runs daily, both on and around campus and from campus to various off-campus NIH buildings. Take the NIH Campus Limited shuttle route for the four-minute ride from the Gateway Center to the Natcher Center – the bus runs every 22 minutes.
Visitor parking is extremely difficult to find at NIH and there is no parking near the Natcher Center, so if at all possible, take public transportation. There is a Metro station on the NIH campus with shuttle bus service to the main buildings. The conference location, the Natcher Center, is a short walk from the station.
The only visitor’s parking garage is the Multi-Level Parking Garage 11 (MLP-11), located at the Gateway complex. The cost is: $2 per hour for the first three hours, $12 maximum for the entire day. No vehicle inspection is necessary for parkers in the MLP-11. Enter the campus from Route 355 at NIH Gateway Drive (just south of South Drive) and park in the MLP-11 garage. Proceed to building 66, the Gateway Center, to receive a visitor ID. Upon exiting the Gateway Center, walk or take the Campus Shuttle to the Natcher Center, Building 45.
A map of the Gateway Center entrance complex, as well as security regulations, may be found at http://parking.nih.gov/Gateway.htm.
An alternative parking at NIH is to drive to Bethesda and park in a public lot in Bethesda. From Bethesda you can either take the Metro (stop is located at East West Highway and Wisconsin Ave.) to the Medical Center Stop or walk up Wisconsin Avenue to Center Drive (about a 10-15 minute walk). You may also drive and park at other Metro Stops on the Red Line that have public parking and take the Metro to the Medical Center station. Convenient stops include Rockville, White Flint and Grosvenor.
At the entrance to NIH:
All visitors must provide a form of government-issued ID such as a driver's license or passport. Also, all visitors should be prepared to submit to a personal inspection prior to entering the campus. These inspections may be conducted with a handheld monitoring device, a metal detector and by visible inspection. Additionally, your personal belongings may be inspected and passed through an x-ray machine.
All visitor and commercial vehicles, except those that park in MLP-11, will be inspected. Visitors must show one (1) form of identification (a government-issued photo ID such as a driver's license, passport, green card, etc.) and may be asked to open the trunk and hood. Be sure to allow extra time for this vehicle inspection procedure.
